Procrastination is defined as delaying decisions or putting off actions. Procrastination can be perceived as laziness but it is not exactly that.
You can try asking people why they procrastinate a lot but they are unable to pinpoint why they do.
So this article is going to get down to the root cause of Procrastination and how to overcome it.
There are three types of Procrastinators.
1) Last minute decision-makers - they make decisions in the last minute to experience the thrill or euphoric rush.
2) Avoiders - fear of failure or fear of success. They care or fear too much of other people's judgement of their achievements or lack of achievement. They try to fit into other people's expectations of them. They act small so that they are not rocking the boat and settle in the comfort zone. Or they are afraid of being in the limelight or getting too much attention from others.
3) Indecisiveness - they are unable to make up their mind between two options or too many choices. So they end up struggling with making the decision or not making any decision.
Why do people procrastinate?
1) Perfectionist
A perfectionist is someone who is obsessed with being perfect or refuse to accept any standard lower than their expectations.
A perfectionist can delay making decisions when he or she sees that none of the options meet their high standards or expectations.
Nobody is born to be a perfectionist. It is something that is conditioned since young through the family upbringing. When the child grows up, he or she establishes certain standards or code of conduct which they believe to be what they should accept or reject.
A perfectionist also holds certain expectations of themselves and others.
2) Fear of Judgement
There is a constant fear of people judging or criticizing your decision whether it is a right or wrong one.
3) Fear of Outcome
There is a constant fear of the outcome of making that decision and measuring the outcome based on success or failure.
But most of the time, we cannot measure everything purely in terms of success or failure because not everything is in black or white.
The fear of outcome can be fear of failure or fear of success. This again, is tied in with how other people perceive and react based on your decision.
4) Fear of the Unknown
We have been conditioned to rush, to act with urgency, to strategize, to plan. But in life, there are times when things happen unexpectedly and unplanned. This is the beauty of life that is unknown.
I know of people who fear the unknown. What is fear of the unknown? How can you fear something that is unknown to you?
Fear of the unknown is a fear of the future that has not happened and perhaps never happen.
It is an anxiety that is rooted in not being present in the now. It is a fear of the future that is based on fear of the past experiences.
We can see life in terms of possibilities. Fear of the unknown is quite the opposite polarity of what can happen but it is based on negative outcome. When you shift your intention to manifest for positive outcome and trust that life will support you, that fear will dissipate.
How do you stop procrastinating?
So after understanding what procrastination is. It is easier to tackle this. Since it is difficult to make decisions, I will introduce to you about Human Design using Strategy and Authority.
Everyone makes decision differently based on 7 main types of Authority. To know how you make decisions based on your own design, check your Human Design bodygraph through this link:
7 Types of Inner Authority
1) Sacral Authority - Listen to your gut feeling or gut voice.
2) Emotional / Solar Plexus Authority - Take the time to ride through the emotional wave of ups and downs to reach emotional clarity before making any rush decision. There is no truth or answer in the now moment.
3) Splenic Authority - Listen to your intuition. It is a quiet still subtle voice that does not repeat itself.
4) Ego Authority - You are either a Manifestor or Projector with Ego Authority. It operates on Will Power. With an Ego Authority, it means you have a lot of open or undefined centers and the tendency to make decisions based on the not-self or mind. Making decisions that are not aligned to you can make you feel burned out or overworked. So make sure you have the energy or Will Power before deciding to start a new project or changing a job or starting a new relationship.
As a Manifestor, your ego authority will express through your throat center. Listen to your voice and how you express it authentically without trying to control what flows out of it but speak your inner truth. If the voice sounds weak or lack confidence, the will power is not there and it is not the right time to speak.
As a Projector, your ego authority will express through your heart center. Projectors have to wait to be invited by others to speak, act or make decisions. You are not here to initiate things but to be invited by others. When you are invited, check in with your body if you have the will power to make decisions or act based on the decision. It is ok not to make the decision if you do not have the will power now.
5) G-Center Authority - the G-Center is connected to the liver and the inner heart. It is the true self, higher self, soul, sense of identity, direction and love. Only Projectors have a G-center or Self Authority that express itself through the throat center. Pay attention to what you say, how you speak to give you a sense of your direction without letting the mind interfere with your words.
6) Mental Authority - You do not make decisions based on the mind. If you are a mental authority, you are a Projector. First, you have to be in a nourishing environment or in places that make you feel good before making any decision. Because you have a lot of open or undefined centers, you are very sensitive to the external energies around you and easily influenced by other people. These are the not-self or conditioning that you are prone to. Do not make any decision based on other people's opinions or advice. But talk about the issues or choices to people whom you trust because they are your "sounding board". As you speak about the issues, you will have more clarity from your own voice.
7) Lunar Authority - If you have a Lunar Authority, you are a reflector. For small decisions, it is ok to make decisions based on "feeling good". But for major decisions such as buying a house, changing a job, relocating, marriage etc, it is better to wait for a lunar cycle of 28 days or even longer. You don't have to be rushed to make decision but to make one that is aligned for you.

No one should be pressured to make decisions based on the mind or for fear of missing out on important opportunities. Better opportunities will come when we learn to work with our inner authority more efficiently without burning ourselves out or wasting our energies.
