There are 9 centers in the system of Human Design moving from 7-center chakra system to 9-centers.

The keynotes for all the gates are indicated below.

When you look at the bodygraph, you will find that there are some defined centers, undefined centers or open centers.

Defined Centers are colored.

Undefined Centers are in white but with some activated gates.

Open Centers are completely in white without any activated gate.

You can have a mixture of them in your bodygraph.

What do these centers represent?

Open / Undefined Centers

The Open Centers represent the not-self and where we are susceptible to external conditionings from other people and the environment. The percentage in each center represents the mass population holding the template.

  • 70% of the population has open/undefined head center trying to answer everybody else's questions. They think about issues that do not matter to them personally.

  • 50% of the population has open/undefined ajna center trying to convince everyone that they are certain of their beliefs and concepts.

  • 30% of the population has open/undefined throat center trying to attract attention by talking too much or feeling unheard or misunderstood.

  • 45% of the population has open/undefined G-center trying to look for love, direction, identity of who they are.

  • 65% of the population has open/undefined heart center trying to prove their worth to the world or to someone else or seeking for validation.

  • 50% of the population has open/undefined solar plexus center trying to avoid confrontation and truth or feeling overwhelmed by other people's emotions.

  • 35% of the population has open/undefined sacral center burning themselves out from working a job that is not fulfilling or bringing them joy. Overextending themselves.

  • 45% of the population has open/undefined spleen center trying to hold or attach onto things, situations or people who are not good for them.

  • 40% of the population has open/undefined root center trying to release the pressure to get things done by rushing.

Defined Centers

On the other hand, the defined centers represent your own energies. In Human Design, it is taught that defined centers are consistent energies. But my own understanding is that we can still experience imbalanced energies in our defined centers if we are still in the shadow frequencies. Most importantly is to be aware of the types of conditionings as stated above so that we can become more mindful not to take in what are not ours.

Defined Head Center - Continual pressure to think, empower others with inspiration and insight. Need to release the pressure to act. It is a natural cycle to have confusion, doubt followed by clarity and inspiration. The shadow aspect is attempting to make decisions due to anxiety and impatience.

Defined Ajna Center - The mind behaves in a consistent and specific way for structuring information for communication and research. This is not designed to use the mind for action. The shadow aspect is over-relying on the mind to make decisions out of worry and anxiety.

Defined Throat Center - Consistent energy to speak or act. Trust the inner voice through the activated throat channel. The shadow aspect is talking or acting too much without delivering the promises.

Defined Heart Center - Has clear goals, access to will power, self-esteem and competitive. The shadow aspect is overvaluing its importance and selfishness.

Defined G-Center - Fixed sense of Self and stable sense of direction, self-love and progress. Follow the inner compass and return back to your inner self. The shadow aspect is ignoring the deepest sense of who you are to please others.

Defined Solar Plexus Center - Experiencing up and down emotional waves of emotions will bring clarity over some time of calmness. Make decisions only after riding the emotional wave back to calmness and clarity. The shadow aspect is to making decisions out of impatience.

Defined Spleen Center - Knows what is worth holding onto. Strong immunity and good health.

Trust your intuition in the now if this is your inner authority. The shadow aspect is making decisions with the mind instead of trusting the intuition; and overloading the immune system.

Defined Sacral Center - Consistent energy to work. Trust your life force and respond to the sacral sound of Yes or No. Focus on doing what you enjoy that will give you energy. Do not overcommit or make decisions from the mind. Learn to be patient and persist even if it appears to be stuck at times.

Defined Root Center - Pressure to be productive. Use stress constructively in the creative process. The shadow aspect is repressing the pressure to please others which can overwhelm others with pressure.

Learning more about your bodygraph will help you to understand your conditionings, stress, worries, overthinking and existing health issues. When we understand what these conditionings are doing to us, it helps us to release the layers of what do not belong to us just like peeling off layers of onions to reveal the core of who we truly are. Conditionings are everywhere around us. It is either we are aware or unaware. So I hope this article will help you identify your conditionings and take the next corrective steps to heal and release.
